PyinOoLwin-Gokteik train services to resume next Saturday

TRAIN services between PyinOoLwin and Gokteik will resume regularly from next Saturday after repairs to the Nawngh­kio-Gokteik railway sec­tion were completed fol­lowing flooding caused by heavy rain in Nawnghkio Township.

Union Minister for Transport and for Dig­ital Development and Communications U Mya Tun Oo inspected the sec­tion by travelling by RBE train from PyinOoLwin to Gokteik station. He instructed officials to clear grass, weeds and bushes along the rail­way, improve drainage in mountainous areas and take measures to prevent floodwater from overflowing onto the tracks near Bridge No 232 between Nawnghkio and Gokteik stations.

At Gokteik station, he also instructed officials to improve the station and staff quarters. He fur­ther inspected Gokteik Viaduct and called for proper maintenance of its structure, paintwork and surrounding fencing. — MNA/MKKS
