Regional MP calls for probe into online gambling bank accounts
YANGON Region Hluttaw Representative U Kyaw Min Htet from Kyauktada Township Constituency 2 raised a question about the crackdown on online gambling at the Yangon Region Hluttaw on 25 August.
He said the government had already approved the Anti-Online Scam Law and was working to enforce it by forming regional or state working committees. However, online gambling activities have remained widespread until now.
Transactions by mobile wallets such as KPay and Wave Money related to gambling and linked with local bank accounts have been seen, he added.
“If these working committees can follow up on bank accounts and arrest them, the crackdown will be more workable,” he said.
Regarding this inquiry, further clarification from the respective regional authorities remains to be seen. — TWA/ZS
