Sagaing Region strengthens flood prevention measures along Chindwin River
A total of 12 flood-monitoring stations have been established along the banks of Chindwin River from Ahlon Ward to South Monywa Ward in Monywa. Departmental personnel, local residents and members of social organizations are jointly monitoring designated locations to help prevent flooding and inundation.
Yesterday morning, Sagaing Region Chief Minister U Ko Lay, accompanied by regional ministers, inspected the condition and stability of flood-control gates and embankments. He also discussed flood-prevention measures for the Chindwin River with responsible personnel.
On 8 August, the chief minister visited Shwesemyaing Hall in Kanbalu Township, where residents from villages affected by flooding from the Mu River had taken shelter. He presented K32.425 million in assistance provided by the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, together with K10 million contributed by the Sagaing Region Government to residents.
