Shwedagon to host Myitta Akhadaw Day ceremony and 84,000-flower offering on Wagaung Full Moon Day

ACCORDING to U Bo Thin, a member of the Pagoda Board of Trus­tees, the Myitta Akhadaw Day ceremony and the offering of 84,000 assorted flowers will be held at the Shwedagon Pagoda.

As the Shwedagon Pagoda celebrates var­ious religious festivals throughout the year, the Metta Day ceremony will also be held at the Ancient Buddha Image Prayer Hall at the plat­form of the pagoda on 28 August (the Wagaung Full Moon Day).

“On the Wagaung Full Moon Day, 84,000 assorted flowers will be offered at the Shwedagon Pagoda. At 5:30 am, mem­bers of the Pagoda Board of Trustees, religious as­sociations and staff will offer dawn alms meals, together with fruit, flow­ers, water, lights and incense sticks, at the Shwedagon Pagoda. At 6 am, the Myitta Day ceremony will be held at the Ancient Buddha Image Prayer Hall. At 7 am, small Cetis made of assorted flowers will be carried clockwise from the Ancient Bud­dha Image Prayer Hall to the pagoda platform. Afterwards, flower Cet­is will be offered to the Padamya Myetshin Bud­dha Image. Pilgrims are also scheduled to observe the Sabbath, participate in a merit-sharing cere­mony, and offer day alms meals to the Ovadacari­ya Sayadaws and invited Sayadaws,” said U Bo Thin.

Due to the increasing number of pilgrims, the Shwedagon Pagoda has been open from 4 am to 10 pm since 21 June 2024 to allow worshippers to pray in peace. — ASH/MKKS
