Toll Pass RFID tested at 6 checkpoints on Yangon- Mandalay Expressway
THE Toll Pass RFID (Radio Frequency Identification)
system is currently being piloted at six toll checkpoints along the Yangon-Mandalay
Expressway and is expected to be introduced soon, according to the Ministry of
Construction.
Installation of the telematics system on
the expressway began in August 2024. As of July 2026, it had been fitted to
2,514 trucks and 3,184 passenger vehicles.
The existing Electronic Toll Collection
(ETC) system is also being upgraded to incorporate RFID technology. During the
trial period, motorists can access the system through the Toll Pass mobile
application.
Once fully implemented, the RFID system
will allow vehicles to pass through toll checkpoints without stopping, improve
the data collection accuracy and support cashless payments.
In addition, a telematics system has
been installed at the Nay Pyi Taw checkpoint to monitor the condition of large
passenger and freight vehicles and enhance road safety on the expressway. —
