Shwe Kokko scam compounds flattened in wide-ranging crackdown

TREATING the fight against telecom fraud and online gambling as a matter of national duty, the Government is systematically demolishing illegal structures in the Shwe Kokko area to prevent them from being used again for illicit scam and gambling operations.

As part of operations targeting the remaining illegal buildings in Shwe Kokko Phase II, heavy machinery has been deployed to dismantle key structures. The demolition of one five-storey building is 45 per cent complete, while work on another five-storey building is 30 per cent complete.

Of the 63 structures targeted for demolition in Shwe Kokko Phase II, the authorities have determined the demolition methods according to building type and surrounding conditions: 25 buildings are to be demolished using heavy machinery, four through controlled implosion, and 34 by manual, floor-by-floor dismantling because of their proximity to residential properties. So far, all four buildings designated for controlled implosion and two buildings designated for mechanical demolition have been completely demolished. Work on the remaining 57 buildings will continue.

Recognizing online fraud and online gambling as serious threats to global socioeconomic stability and national security, the Government remains committed to cracking down on these activities in close coordination with neighbouring and regional countries to eradicate them once and for all. — 100/MKKS
