MoALI organizes first Myanmar bovine beauty pageant in Yangon

The first State/Region-level bovine beauty pageant was held yesterday morning in Mingaladon Township, Yangon Region. The event was organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation and attended by Yangon Region Economic Minister U Aung Than Oo, cabinet members, the Yangon Region Development Committee Chairmen, officials from the region Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department, livestock companies and owners of the cows/goats.


The event aims to promote domestic dairy cattle/goat/sheep farming, to expand network among livestock farmers to exchange breeding techniques, to highlight the beauty and meat production of Myanmar livestock as well as the economic development of rural animal husbandry, and to raise awareness about the value and behavior of the competing animals.


There will be seven events of competitions and the first prize, the second prize and the third prize in addition to consolation prizes will be awarded respectively.


Yangon Region Economic Minister U Aung Than Oo urged all to develop the livestock sector in Myanmar and raise good breeds of dairy cows, sheep and goats and strive to be diseased-free and productive under the guidance of breeding experts.


Afterwards, the Minister visited more than 20 booths of the exhibitions and the competition of the animals participated in the event. A total of 10 prizes will be awarded to Myanmar bull beauty contest, dairy cow contest, beef cattle contest and goat contest on the afternoon of 3 January.—Nyein Thu (MNA)/GNLM
