It was because local MSME businesspersons could not compete with illegally imported commodities which evaded custom duty, at the prices in the market and they are difficult to stand for their businesses. Hence, it is necessary to effectively hinder and inspect the illegal import of commodities.

Within nine months from January to September 2022, the action was taken against 3,095 illegal trade cases at an estimated value of K45.6 billion, exceeding K38.974 billion in 1,537 cases for K6.626 billion worth of illegal trade goods in the corresponding period of the previous year. Special task forces need to arrange no hindrance to the inflow of necessary agricultural inputs to the farmers in time while effectively inspecting illegally imported ammonium nitrate with security awareness. In suppressing the illegal trade, task forces seized not only illegal commodities but narcotic drugs, explosives, arms and ammunition and related accessories.
