Kayin New Year Festival celebrated in Yangon’s National Races Village

The Kayin New Year Festival was
held at the National Races Village in Thakayta Township of Yangon Region
yesterday.
First, the flag hoisting ceremony
was held and the attendees gave a salute to the flag.
Next, SAC members Jeng Phang Naw
Taung and U Saw Daniel and wife, Union Minister U Saw Tun Aung Myint, the
region chief minister and the commander of Yangon Command launched the ceremony
by giving nine beats on the Kayin traditional frog drum.

Kayin Era is New Year’s Day for Kayin ethnic people. Although the ethnic people
residing in Myanmar have different cultures, traditions and customs, they all
are national brethren.
As per the long existence of the
Kayin people, they possess customs, culture and historic heritages. The
traditional festivals of the Kayin people are the new year festival,
house-warming festival, new harvest feast and soul-inviting festival and their
traditional Don dance is very active and also famous. Now the festival reached
its 85th anniversary for the efforts of Kayin ancestors since 1937.
He then highlighted the
activities of SAC implementing the “ To respect and promote the customs and
traditions of all National peoples and preserve and safeguard their cultural
heritage and national characteristics” mentioned in the nine objectives of SAC
and the need to conserve the literature, language and culture.
After the Kayin traditional dance
performance, the Minister for Ethnic Affairs gave presents to the guests.
Then, the officials provided cash
contributions to Kayin New Year Festival Organizing Committee. — MNA/KTZH
