January 20
Three million Sinopharm vaccines
and three million syringes donated by the People’s Republic of China to Myanmar
were handed over at the VIP lounge hall of Yangon International Airport
yesterday. Union Minister for Health Dr Thet Khaing Win, Yangon Region Chief
Minister U Soe Thein and Chinese Ambassador Mr Chen Hai attended the ceremony.
The Chinese ambassador said that
the donated Covid-19 vaccines are for Myanmar’s additional vaccination
activities. China is continuously assisting Myanmar in its anti-epidemic
operations and also in the construction of Myanmar’s infectious disease
prevention and control centre and training centres for health workers.
Union Health Minister Dr Thet
Khaing Win expressed his thank to China for the assistance provided by China to
the Myanmar Infectious Disease Control Centre and the Health Staff Training
Centre to be opened by the end of 2023. He added that the donated three million
vaccines will be used as an additional preventive injection for elderly people
with chronic diseases and school-age children.
Afterwards, the two countries
mutually signed the record of the transfer of vaccines and the Union minister
returned the letter of appreciation. Then, the Union minister, the ambassador
and the guests had documentary photos taken before closing the
ceremony.—MNA/KZW
