Myanmar joins 23rd ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Transnational Crime and its related meetings

The 23rd ASEAN Senior Officials
Meeting on Transnational Crime (SOMTC) and its Related Meetings were held in
Yogyakarta of Indonesia from 20 to 23 June.
The 23rd preliminary meeting of
SOMTC leaders on 20 and 21 June focused on violence, human trafficking, drug
cases, money laundering, cybercrime and preventive measures in ASEAN region.
Deputy Chief of Myanmar Police
Force Police Maj-Gen Aung Aung, leader of Myanmar SOMTC, discussed the release
of misinformation by terrorist groups, killing of innocent people, bomb attacks
on schools, hospitals, governmental buildings, combating processes as per the
law, measures to eradicate online frauds in border areas and human trafficking
and cooperation work with neighbouring countries.
Moreover, the 20th SOMTC + China
Consultation meeting was held on 22 June and implementation of the Memorandum
of Understanding (2017-2023) and Action Plan (2019-2023) on Combating
Non-Traditional Security Issues and plans to develop a new plan to be implemented
in 2024-2028 were discussed. The meeting also approved one work guideline and
agreed upon five drafts to be approved at the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on
Transnational Crime in August.
The SOMTC leaders and dialogue
partners China, Japan and Korea and Australia, Canada, European Union, India,
New Zealand and the United States for cooperation in the fight against
transnational crime in the region and approved four plans.
At the meeting, Myanmar presented
violence, human trafficking, money laundering, combating illegal entry into
border area, online frauds in border areas and effective cooperation to fight
online gambling.
Moreover, during the 23rd SMOTC
and its related meetings, the leader of Myanmar delegation met with
Director-General of Ministry of Public Security of China, Deputy National
Police Chief of Thailand and Head of Criminal Investigation Board of Indonesia
separately and discussed the measures to combat online frauds and gambling and
