Fire in north India claims 4 lives

 


At least four persons including a woman died and a few were injured when a fire broke out at a commercial building having electronic showrooms and other offices in India's northern state of Uttar Pradesh, a local cop confirmed to Xinhua over phone on Tuesday.

The mishap occurred in Uttar Pradesh's Jhansi district, Sipri Bazar area, on Monday evening. A few persons were still missing, and relief and rescue work was going on at the site, said media reports.

Seven persons having burn injuries were rescued and admitted to a local hospital. The woman who died was a senior official of an insurance company, added the reports.

The Indian Army was called in to control the situation, and around 55 fire tenders were rushed in to douse the fire. It took 12 hours to bring the fire under control.
