Opportunities must be created for women to enjoy gender equality
Chairman of the State Admin¬istration Council Prime Minis¬ter Senior General Min Aung Hlaing sent a message to the cere¬mony to mark the Myanmar Women’s Day 2023 held at the Myanmar Inter¬national Convention Centre-II in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday morning.
In his message, the Senior Gener¬al highlighted emergence of outstand¬ing Myanmar women in the economic, social, fine arts and so on from the time of independence struggle peri¬od in the colonial era to date, adding Myanmar women can be seen in all sectors, in addition to State defence and security duties in shouldering with men.
It was emphasized in the message that the Myanmar National Committee for Women’s Affairs and regional com¬mittees are emphasizing improvement of socioeconomic life of women and girls and gender equality.
The message mentioned that wom¬en’s literacy rate above 15 years old declined by six per cent, and women’s labour force participant rate of the people above 15 years old slightly dips rather than that of men according to the summarized report of the inter¬im census in 2019. Such data showed requirements of raising the literacy rate for women, especially for soci¬oeconomic life of the girls. It can be seen that it is necessary to improve capacity of workable women to enjoy the job opportunities.
Furthermore, the message stated that efforts must be made for all inclu¬sive women to complete learning of KG+9 scheme. The message under¬scored that a greater encouragement must be given to women for learning modern education with modern tech¬nologies and vocational education in¬cluding domestic science for having employment opportunities.
Moreover, the message spotlighted that the theme “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality” of the International Women’s Day, which fell on 8 March 2023, aims to enable women and vulnerable groups to have technologies as part of fulfilling the requirements of women and creating the good potentials to further improve the gender equality in addition to pro¬tection of the rights of women and girls in the digital sector and tackling the on¬line and technological gender violence.
Significantly, the message of the Senior General stipulated that women representing more than a half of total population of Myanmar are valuable hu¬man resources as well as an important force for building the Union based on democracy and federalism. Myanmar women are taking responsibilities of the society on one hand and initiating the future of youths. In other words, they all are architects to turn out hu¬man resources for the future State.
In his message, the Senior General urged all women and men to harmoni¬ously join in the nation-building tasks and expose capabilities of women with rights.—GNLM
