Plan under way to grow 24.619 million trees across the nation this year





Member of the National Dis­aster Management Commit­tee Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Khin Maung Yi, accompanied by Rakhine State Chief Minister U Htein Lin, joined the 2023 monsoon tree-planting ceremony at Kandawgyi Lake in Sittway yesterday.


On the occasion, the Union Minister disclosed that it was esti­mated to grow 24.619 million trees across the nation and over 20.52 million trees have been grown to date. Moreover, it was also es­timated to establish 4,287 acres of village firewood plantation in­cluding two acres per village in this rainy season to meet the fuel needs of rural people, he added.


The Union Minister inspect­ed the staff housing of Rakhine State Salt Farming Division. An official reported on the production of raw salt, iodized salt, and repair of office buildings and Deputy Minister U Tun Ohn gave a sup­plementary report.


The Union Minister stressed the need to upgrade the salt pro­duction technique to promote the production rate, cooperate with departments concerned to im­prove the salt quality for local consumption.


He viewed round at the site to grow trees in Lawkananda pa­goda precinct.


At noon, the Union Minister inspected the loading processes of various saplings and timbers from MV Fortune onto vehicles.


He viewed the growing of 1,500 mangrove plants at Shukh­intha beach in Sittway at the 2023 mangrove plant growing cere­mony.


The Forest Department will grow 35,000 mangrove plants along Shukhintha beach.— MNA/KTZH
