CECCM leads Chinese companies and individuals to contribute over K1B towards flood-stricken communities

CHINA Enterprise Chamber of Commerce in Myanmar (CECCM) and member Chinese companies donated more than K1 billion to flood-impacted communities, demonstrating corporate social responsibility.

The Yangon Region government office held a donation event for flood-stricken regions and states at Mingala Hall on 3 October 2024. Mr Liu Ming, chair of CECCM and representatives of Chinese enterprises were present at the event. Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein handed over a certification of honour in recognition of their contributions to flood-affected communities.

Mr Liu Ming from CECCM vowed the organization’s commitment to engaging in charitable events to help the people in need in Myanmar. He also elaborated on how Myanmar’s people knit together in unity to tackle obstacles and challenges.

With the support initiative of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China to Myanmar, CECCM announced a donation drive, and 41 Chinese companies immediately responded to it with contributions of cash (K43.86 million) and flood rescue equipment worth over six million kyats for flood rehabilitation efforts.

CECCM endeavoured to bolster economic, investment, and trade cooperation between Myanmar and China and promote cultural exchange by actively taking part in social activities in Myanmar. It builds an ethical workplace culture for China-Myanmar employers. It also helps sustain the moral conduct, accountability and social responsibility of Chinese employers, positively influencing corporate image.

CECCM was registered as a non-profit social institution in Myanmar in November 2017, pursuing organizational discipline, independence and non-profit management. It is committed to exchanging ideas, discussions, ethical practices, opportunities, and instructional services.

CECCM now has over 250 members from various industries. Seven associations are now operating under the CECCM, including TMT Association, Agriculture Development Association, Tourism and Service Association, International Contractors and Realty Association, Electric Power Development Association, Heavy Industry Association and Textile and Garment Association.

Chinese entrepreneurs in Myanmar actively engage in social initiatives, consistently contributing to disaster relief and emergency response efforts. They have reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the country’s sustainable development programmes. (CECCM sources)
