Myanmar delegation led by Union Chief Justice attends 19th APCJ Conference in Malaysia

The Myanmar delegation led by Union Chief Justice U Tha Htay
attended the 19th Conference of Chief Justices of Asia and Pacific held from 11
to 13 October in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It was invited by Rt Hon Tun Tengku
Maimun Binti Tuan Mat, Chief Justice of the Federal Court of Malaysia.
The 19th Conference of Chief Justices of Asia and the Pacific
has been held biennially since 1985. The meetings are attended by the Chief
Justices and Heads of the Judiciary from Asia-Pacific countries, who discuss
the judicial issues.
Since Myanmar’s judicial reform process requires the
cooperation of Asia and Pacific countries, by attending the Conference, we
could exchange views and discuss the respective issues with the chief justices
and heads of the judiciary of the Asia-Pacific region.
Rt Hon Tun Tengku Maimun Binti Tuan Mat, Chief Justice of the
Federal Court of Malaysia, hosted the Welcome Reception, which was held at the
Shangri-La Hotel in Kuala Lumpur on the night of 11 October for the guests of
the Conference and the Union Chief Justice and the Myanmar delegation attended
the Welcome Reception.
The 19th Conference of Chief Justices of Asia and the Pacific
is organized by the Federal Court of Malaysia and the Judicial Section of
LAWASIA, held from 11 to 13 October at the Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. The
representatives, headed by chief justices and justices from 29 countries,
comprised a total of 95 people who participated in the Conference.
Then, Chief Justices of the Asia-Pacific Region and the Heads
of Delegates attended the Conference and discussed a variety of topics in the
Conference sessions regarding maintaining confidence in and respect for the
rule of law in the rapidly changing and less secure world, judicial well-being,
advantages to courts offered by Technology-AI, Challenges posed to courts by
technology-AI, Regulation of the legal profession and the education of lawyers
in an era of AI-what is or should the role of the courts be? International
cooperation and cross-border issues, the courts and the media, including social
media.
Union Chief Justice U Tha Htay attended the Conference along
with the officials of the Union Supreme Court. — MNA
