Orange trade spikes in Taunggyi fruit market
THE price of seasonal fruit oranges has become fair,
and trade has increased in Shan State’s Taunggyi fruit market.
At the beginning of the orange harvesting season,
which began in September, the price was pretty high, and the supply is
adequate.
“Price was high at the beginning of the season. Now,
the supply has begun to increase, and the price has begun to fair. As of last
month, harvesting has begun. Fruit production was unable to meet the demand
last month. But production will be abundant in the next months because winter
is the season. The trade has been fine in Taunggyi. We’ve received orders
nationwide such as Yangon, Mandalay, Magway, Myeik, Dawei, Myawady, Tachilek
and Thanphyuzayat,” said Ma Sandi Tayar, orange retail and wholesale
distributor from Taunggyi Township.
Orange is grown across Shan State, including
Taunggyi, Yaksawk, Kalaw, and Aungban, and the orange season starts in November
and continues through February.
“Orange is a Shan state-produced fruit. It tastes
sweeter in winter, and now it is sour,” she added. — Thit Taw/ZS
