Rapid rollout of renewable energy projects planned
THE country has 28 hydropower plants, 27 gas-fired power plants and eight solar power plants with a total installed capacity of 6,371 MW, said Admiral Tin Aung San.
Chairman of the Electric Power and Energy Development Commission State Administration Council Member Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister at the Prime Minister Office Admiral Tin Aung San delivered a speech at the Electric Power and Energy Development Commission’s meeting at the SAC Office in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday afternoon.
Speaking on the occasion, the Admiral said 12 power plants of hydro and gas-fired stations are destroyed due to destructive actions and natural disasters, and the capacity of power generation is low currently. Therefore, the electricity needs of the country are higher than before. The power-generation projects possibly using renewable energy resources will be implemented rapidly.
He continued that there are ongoing solar power plant projects, four in Nay Pyi Taw, three in Mandalay Region, one in Bago Region and one in Shan State, with a total installed capacity of 530 MW. Moreover, the ongoing hybrid (gas engine and solar) projects are being carried out one in Mandalay Region and one in Magway Region, with a total installed capacity of 496 MW. Therefore, the solar and hybrid projects can generate 1,026 MW.
He then urged the local and foreign investors in solar projects to report on their difficulties and delays in projects, and the ministries to find out the proper solutions.
