MR introduces express trains, cutting Yangon- Mandalay travel time
MYANMA Railways has launched new express
train services to reduce travel time on the Yangon-Mandalay route from 19 to
11 hours. This expansion includes modern air-conditioned DEMU trains on the
Yangon-Nay Pyi Taw route and new air-conditioned coaches on the Nay Pyi
Taw-Mandalay route.
With Japan’s ODA loan and state funds,
significant upgrades have been made to railway infrastructure, signalling
systems, and rolling stock. The Yangon-Nay Pyi Taw route now features the No 7
Up and No 8 Down express services, while the Nay Pyi Taw-Mandalay section
includes the No 27 Up and No 28 Down express services.
Deputy Prime Minister MoTC Union
Minister General Mya Tun Oo and officials marked the occasion with ceremonies
at Yangon, Nay Pyi Taw and Mandalay Central Stations. The new services have
been well received by passengers for their improved comfort and efficiency.
Myanmar Railways continues to operate the original express trains with a
revised schedule and further enhancements planned.
Tickets for these services are available
at major stations, government offices, and online. — MNA/KZL
