Myanmar, CITIC discuss Kyaukpyu SEZ Deep Seaport
A coordination meeting on the conditions
precedent that must be fulfilled by both Myanmar and CITIC for the successful
implementation of the Kyaukpyu Special Economic Zone deep seaport project was
held yesterday at Meeting Hall 1 of the Ministry of Commerce in Nay Pyi Taw.
At the meeting, Dr Kan Zaw, Chairman of
the Myanmar Special Economic Zone Central Working Committee and Union Minister
for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations stated that a development plan to
enhance cooperation between Myanmar and China and to promote the deep seaport
project should be drafted in line with the current era to expedite the
project’s commencement, as it plays a key role in the economic development of
both Myanmar and China.
Union Minister for Commerce U Tun Ohn,
who is also Vice-Chairman of the Myanmar Special Economic Zone Central Working
Committee, added that the project is important for Myanmar, and the Myanmar-China
Economic Corridor cooperation project, which is strategic for China, has been
launched. Therefore, bilateral trade and investment will be promoted. He
highlighted the efforts to complete the work by setting a timeline before the
end of the fixed timeline.
Afterwards, the officials from CITIC
Consortium Myanmar Port Investment Limited reported on the completion and
ongoing plans, and the departmental officials discussed EIA/ SIA and the
Development Plan. After hearing the reports, Union Minister Dr Kan Zaw
