Sri Lanka sets record with highest-ever January tourist arrivals in 2025

The highest number of tourists arrivals for the month of January in history was reported in 2025, the latest data by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) shows.

The data shows that 252,761 tourists visited the country in January 2025, surpassing previous records.

A total of 208,253 tourists arrived in Sri Lanka in January 2024 and the total number of tourist arrivals for last year is 2,053,465.

Sri Lanka's tourism sector peaked in 2018 with 2,333,796 tourist arrivals and 238,924 arrived in January in that year.

India, Russia, Britain, China and Germany were the top five source markets for January 2025, according to SLTDA figures.
