Myanmar sweeps 29 ASEAN tourism standard awards in 2024 and 2025
Myanmar has secured 29 awards which were
16 ASEAN Tourism Standard Awards in 2024 and 13 more awards in 2025, according
to the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism.
The ASEAN Tourism Standards Awards have
been established since 2008, with a total of 11 ASEAN tourism standards
officially recognized. Awards are presented based on the relevant tourism
standards. Myanmar, since 2008 until today, has won 134 awards under these
ASEAN tourism standards over the years.
Efforts are being made in accordance
with ASEAN tourism standards to provide excellent services to international
travellers visiting Myanmar, create reliable and high-quality experiences, and
establish Myanmar as a desirable tourist destination for more visits.
Currently, the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism is actively raising the
nationwide awareness and discussion sessions on ASEAN tourism standards.
In 2024, the number of tourist arrivals
in the ASEAN region rebounded to 123.68 million. Around half of ASEAN’s total
tourist arrivals consisted of intra-ASEAN travel among its member countries.
Therefore, Myanmar is actively working to tap into this tourism market.
Moreover, efforts are being made in collaboration with tourism sector
associations to attract visitors from key tourism markets such as China, Japan,
Korea, India, and Russia. — ASH/TTA
