460 Acres of Rain-fed Sunflower Planted in Ngape Township
Ngape, 20 August
A total of 460 acres of rain-fed sunflower have been successfully cultivated across 15 village tracts in Ngape Township, Magway Region under the guidance of the Township Agricultural Coordination and Supervision Committee, exceeding the original target of 456 acres.
Farmers planted two high-yielding varieties, including 440 acres of Sin Shwe Kya-2 and 20 acres of Ye Sin-1, aiming to boost local edible oil production. Last year, 419 acres were planted with an average yield of 16.77 bushels per acre.
To support future seed needs, the Ngape Township Agriculture Department has also cultivated 60 acres of sunflower varieties for seed production. Farmers are receiving guidance on plant care, pest control, and harvesting under the Township Department of Agriculture Chief U Myint Thein and his team.— Ma Yu (Ngaphe)
