Myanmar hosts Special Senior Officials Meeting ahead of 46th AMAF and related events



DIRECTOR-GENERAL Dr Thandar Kyi of the Planning Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation virtually presided over the Special Senior Officials Meeting of the 46th Meeting of the ASEAN Ministers on Agriculture and Forestry and its related meetings on 19-20 August.

 

The representatives of ASEAN members, Timor-Leste, ASEAN Sec­retary-General Office, CGIAR, CPOPC, CSIRO, ERIA, GIZ, TAF GTEI, FAO, GHD and Boeing, Sattva Consulting, SCeNe Coalition, Singapore Crawfish, SEAFDEC and US-ABC, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation and Ministry of Agricul­ture, Livestock and Irrigation joined the first day of the meeting.

 

During the opening ceremony of the meeting, the SOM-AMAF Leader Director-General made an opening speech.

 

They then discussed the outcomes from the ASEAN Summit and the ASE­AN Economic Ministers’ Meeting, the meeting of the working group on food security, agriculture and forest, min­utes of four meetings from the food security sector, six from the agricul­tural sector, one from the agriculture and forest product sector and one from the forestry sector. They agreed to approve the 23 recommendations on food security, agriculture and forestry sectors and record seven plans at the 47th Meeting of the ASEAN Ministers on Agriculture and Forestry.

 

The CGIAR discussed the pro­gresses in ASEAN-One CGIAR Pro­gram, while CPOPC about implemen­tation of EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), CSIRO about ASEAN-Aus­tralia bioprevention researches, ERIA about agricultural food security sys­tem, reduction of carbon emission in agricultural sectors and food security measures in ASEAN region, whereas the outcomes resulting from the project that utilizes rice husks for long-term sustainability by GIZ, initial measures for ASEAN Green Bond by FAO, pro­duction of sustainable aviation fuel from agricultural waste by GHD and Boeing, business models within the ASEAN region that reduce environ­mental impact, nature-based solution by SCeNe Coalition, lobster farming by Singapore Crawfish, proper man­agement for eel farming in ASEAN region by SEAFDEC and promising cooperation by US-ASEAN Business Council.

 

The Special Senior Officials Meet­ing of the 24th Meeting of the ASEAN Ministers on Agriculture and Forestry Plus Three and the 10th ASEAN-Russia Agriculture and Forestry High-Level Officials Meeting were also held yes­terday. — MNA/KTZH
