Public-Private Dialogue on boosting paddy seed production, export zone plans



MINISTRY of Agriculture, Live­stock and Irrigation and My­anmar Rice Federation jointly organized a Public-Private Dia­logue on export zones implemen­tation and developing paddy seed production businesses was held on 18 August at the meeting hall of the ministry in Nay Pyi Taw.

 

Deputy Minister of the min­istry and officials concerned, President of MRF and repre­sentatives, regional committee chairmen, exporters, fertilizer companies, seed production companies, and farmers partic­ipated in the dialogue.

 

The meeting also highlight­ed setting agricultural export zone on contracted farmland ar­eas in collaboration with farmers and export companies, cultivat­ing only paddy seed designated for exports, collaboration be­tween departments concerned and seed production companies to meet paddy seed needs, pro­duction in line with Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for contract farming, securing Ge­ographical Indication status for Pawsan Hmway, premium qual­ity rice of Myanmar to increase its international presence, bol­stering exports and attaining good price to benefit growers, reducing inputs, boosting pro­duction and public-private part­nership.

 

Furthermore, institutions concerned negotiated with counterparts of the neighbouring countries (Bangladesh and Chi­na) to ramp up exports and gain a reasonable market amid a drop in global rice prices. — NN/KK
