Second day of “Understanding Myanmar’s International Boundary” Workshop concludes



THE two-day workshop on “Un­derstanding Myanmar’s Inter­national Boundary” continued at the Lawkanatt Hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 28 August 2025.

 

On the second day, Perma­nent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs U Hau Khan Sum delivered the opening remarks. In his remarks, he highlighted the objective of the workshop, the importance of maritime boundary delimitation and the expected outcomes of the work­shop.

 

Experts from the Marine Administration Department of the Ministry of Transport and Communication, the Myanmar Naval Hydrographic Depot of the Office of the Command­er-in-Chief (Navy), International Law and Treaties Division of the Consular and Legal Affairs De­partment of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Legal Affairs and Ministry of Education, as well as Charge d’Affaires of the Myanmar Embassy to Singa­pore, took part in the discussions both in person and online. The discussion focused on the legal frameworks and technical as­pects of the maritime boundary delimitation, including the mat­ters related to the delimitation of the Continental Shelf beyond 200 nautical miles.

 

Over the course of the two-day workshop, participants from the relevant ministries shared experiences, discussed plans, and cordially exchanged views on challenges and difficulties. At the end of the workshop, Certifi­cates of Participation were given to the panellists by U Naing Min Kyaw, Deputy Minister of For­eign Affairs.

 

Afterwards, a closing cere­mony of the two-day workshop was held, and U Than Swe, Un­ion Minister for Foreign Affairs, delivered closing remarks. In his remarks, he appreciated all the participants for their active participation and discussion at the workshop. He underscored the importance of pursuing bor­der policies which can serve the national interest and strength­en the capacity in dealing with boundary matters. — MNA
