China’s V-Day parade to host 26 world leaders



THE event commemorating the 80th anniversary of the vic­tory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War will take place in Beijing on 3 Sep­tember, and the rehearsals for the upcoming military parade in Tian’anmen Square are ba­sically complete, according to the press conference held at the Media Centre Hotel yes­terday.

 

The parade will feature a wide range of weapons and equipment and the Chinese military’s recent advance­ments in modernization and enhanced combat readiness, said Major-General Wu Zeke, Deputy Director of the Leading Group Office of Military Parade and Deputy Director-General of the Operations Bureau of the Joint Staff Department of the Central Military Commission.

 

The theme of the com­memoration is to remember history, honour the fallen he­roes, cherish peace and create a better future, said Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Mr Hong Lei.

 

A total of 26 foreign heads of state and government of Russia, North Korea, Cambo­dia, Vietnam, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan and Myan­mar will attend the event.

 

The participation of Par­liament leaders, Deputy Prime Ministers and high-ranking of­ficials and representatives of organizations shows three dis­tinct features: their high-rank­ing positions, the participation of government and civil society representatives with strong representation from the five continents across the world and a wide scope of coopera­tion, added the Chinese Assis­tant Foreign Minister.

 

A gala at the Great Hall of the People will be held on the evening of 3 September as part of the victory anniversary events. — Khin Yadana/KTZH
