Large Haul of Drugs Seized in Pyawbwe Township
Nay Pyi Taw, 11 September
A major drug bust in Pyawbwe Township,
Mandalay Region, resulted in the seizure of ecstasy tablets and "Happy
Water" valued at approximately Ks 1.63 billion, according to the Myanmar
Police Force.
Acting on a tip-off, a combined team
from the Anti-Narcotics Squad intercepted and searched a motorbike near Taungwa
Village on the Thazi–Pyawbwe road at 1:30 p.m. on 6 September. The motorbike
was driven by Phawa, with Myo Myint riding as a passenger. The search led to
the discovery of 11,200 ecstasy tablets and 8 kilograms of Happy Water.
Preliminary investigations revealed
that the drugs were being transported from Thazi Township to Yangon, where they
were intended for distribution among youth in KTVs, bars, and nightclubs.
Legal action has been taken under the
Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law, and further investigations are
underway to identify others involved in the trafficking network.—MNA
