Magway Region Chief Minister Attends Fish Stocking Ceremony
Magway, 18 September
A fish stocking ceremony was held in the Ayeyarwady River near Nan Htaik Thu Hotel in Magway on the morning of 18 September, with the participation of Magway Region Chief Minister U Tint Lwin, government officials, students, and local residents.
At the event, 400,000 fingerlings—including 250,000 swamp barb and 150,000 rohu—were released to help restore fish populations, support local livelihoods, and promote sustainable fisheries.
The initiative, led by the Magway Region Fisheries Department, aims to replenish fish stocks depleted by fishing, boost production, and improve the socio-economic conditions of rural communities. The department is also running fish hatchery camps in Taungdwingyi, Pwint Phyu, and Myothit Townships, and plans to release 1 million fingerlings across the region this year.— Maung Nyi Nya
