Shan United and Dagon Star United extend winning runs in MNL

THE 2025-2026 Myanmar National League (MNL) Matchweek III concluded on 14 September, with defending champions Shan United and Dagon Star United both continuing their winning form.

At Taunggyi Stadium, Shan United defeated Rakhine United 3-0. Despite having played one game fewer than most rivals due to international commitments, the champions have won both of their matches so far. Rakhine United, under new coach U Min Tun Lin, could not avoid another defeat after losing their opening game.

After dominating early, Shan United broke the deadlock in the 30th minute when Mark Sekyi scored with a header from a corner. In the second half, captain Nanda Kyaw converted a penalty in the 60th minute, before Jordan Hamilton sealed the win with a third goal in the 90th minute.

Meanwhile, at Thuwunna Youth Training Centre, Dagon Star United came from behind to beat Ayeyawady United 2-1, extending their perfect start to three wins in a row and staying top of the table. Ayeyawady took the lead in the 24th minute through Wai Yan Tun, but Dagon Star responded with goals from Aung Thiha in the 47th minute and Suan Lam Mang in the 65th.

The postponed fixture between Yangon United and ISPE FC, halted due to weather will be resumed with the remaining 20 minutes to be played on 16 September at 4 pm at Thuwunna Youth Training Centre. — Ko Nyi Lay/KZL
