Conserve the natural environment to ensure the prosperity of the nation

THE natural environment is an essential part of human existence and is composed of the land, water, air, and all living things. In other words, the natural environment refers to everything surrounding human beings, including the soil, mountains, rivers, trees, wildlife, horticultural farms, perennial trees, farmlands, croplands, and villages.

The natural environment is gradually degrading due to global climatic and environmental changes such as rising temperatures, severe rainfall, prolonged droughts, deforestation, and soil erosion. These climatic and environmental changes lead to food insecurity, scarcity of drinking water, and the extinction of rare species and biodiversity. Therefore, all human beings must conserve and protect the natural environment for the well-being of future generations.

In conserving the natural environment, the growth and preservation of trees and forests play a vital and essential role. In tree planting, it is beneficial to grow crops and shade trees, as well as valuable trees such as teak and ironwood, along with long-lived species like gum-kino, tamarind and mango. Trees and forests act as natural purifiers of the air by absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen, thus sustaining human life. Moreover, they provide shelter and habitats for animals. Trees also supply humans with necessary materials such as wood for construction, furniture, and other daily needs.

At present, due to population growth and the increasing demand for economic development, people are excessively extracting and using forest resources. As a result, forests are being depleted. When forests disappear, rainfall decreases, water sources dry up, and farmland that depends on these resources becomes unproductive, leading to desertification. Therefore, to prevent harm to the natural environment, it is essential to use forest resources and underground natural resources in a careful and sustainable manner.

In utilizing forest and mineral resources, it is important to do so with foresight and consideration for the future, using only as much as is necessary and in a sustainable manner. Furthermore, instead of excessively relying on materials that cause environmental degradation, it is advisable to use renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and water power as alternatives.

Therefore, to ensure the long-term sustainability of the natural environment, to prevent climate change, and to preserve a healthy environment for future generations, all citizens must work together to protect and conserve the nation’s natural environment. If so, those people can enjoy the fruits of their endeavours to conserve the natural environment.
