Myanmar U17 topple Oman to preserve flawless AFC qualifying campaign
MYANMAR’S
U17 men’s team earned a confident two-nil win over Oman U17 in the Group G
match of the 2026 AFC U17 Asian Cup Qualifiers, held on the evening of 28
November at the Thuwunna Youth Training Centre on the Waizayanta Road in
Yangon. More than twenty thousand supporters packed the stadium and drove the
team forward from start to finish.
Both
sides fought aggressively for an opening goal in the first 45 minutes. Myanmar
broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute when captain Aung Thiha, wearing shirt number
five, struck a long-range effort to give his team the lead. Energized by the
crowd’s roar, Myanmar tightened its control of the match, and three minutes
later, number 10 Nyi Nyi Thant delivered the decisive second goal. Oman could
not pull one back, and Myanmar sealed a clean two-nil victory at full-time.
Myanmar
started the match with Myint Myat Ko Ko (3), Myo Khant Kyaw (4), Aung Thiha
(5), Arnt Htoo Paing (7), Lin Yaung (8), Nyi Nyi Thant (10), Myat Min Thu (13),
Win Zaw (15), Chan Lant Tint (16), Htet Wai Yan (18) and Ye Naing Aung (19). In
the second half, Win Min Thant (6) came on in the seventy-ninth minute, Di Wai
Yan (9) replaced Nyi Nyi Thant in the eighty-ninth minute, and Kaung Khant (23)
substituted for Ye Naing Aung deep in added time. All substitutes contributed
with a high work rate in the closing phase.
With
three wins from three matches, Myanmar now stands on nine points and is close
to securing qualification. The team needs only a single point in the final
fixture to progress. Myanmar U17 will face Syria U17 at 4 pm on 30 November. —
