Initiate mutual respect for women and girls without violent acts

VIOLENCE against women and girls remains one of the most prevalent and pervasive human rights violations in the world. Globally, almost one in three women has been subjected to physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence, non-partner sexual violence, or both, at least once in their lives.

Women, especially both wife and daughter, are neither slaves of the family as well as nor employees. They are all members of relevant families. Hence, no one, including husbands or brothers, as well as sisters does has the right to commit violence against those women at any age. Even though those women make mistakes, as they are all families, they need to negotiate with each other to search for the root cause of mistakes by seeking the best ways.

Actually, not only women but men may make mistakes. These are unforgettable wrongdoings for the families. If not only husbands or wives commit unforgettable crimes or mistakes, the authorities of the country wait for them to take action. As such, women, being human beings, are entitled to full human rights, and no one has the right to commit violence against them except in cases of criminal wrongdoing. Both men and women are subject to the law for any criminal offences. Therefore, committing violence against an individual without legal justification constitutes a violation of the law.

It is a scourge that has intensified in different settings, but this year, the campaign for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women focuses on one in particular: the digital realm. Violence against women on online platforms is, today, a serious and rapidly growing threat that seeks to silence the voices of many women, especially those with a strong public and digital presence in fields such as politics, activism, or journalism, according to the United Nations.

It is a form of violence on the rise due to weak technological regulation, a lack of legal recognition of this type of aggression in some countries, the impunity of digital platforms, new and fast-evolving forms of abuse using AI, movements opposing gender equality, the anonymity of perpetrators, and the limited support for digital victims.

The 2025 International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women launches the UNiTE to End Digital Violence against Women and Girls campaign, calling on governments, tech companies, donors, and individuals to take action. The campaign runs from 25 November to 10 December as part of the 16 Days of Activism, concluding on International Human Rights Day.
