Myanmar delegation attends China-ASEAN legal cooperation forum, strengthens bilateral and regional legal collaboration



AT the invitation of the China– ASEAN Legal Research Centre in Chongqing, a Myanmar del­egation led by Dr Htein Lin Oo, Deputy Minister for Legal Af­fairs and Deputy Attorney-Gen­eral, attended the seventh Chi­na–ASEAN Legal Cooperation Forum, held on 21 November.

 

The forum took place at 10 am on 21 November in the Changjiang Hall of the Chong­qing Yuzhou Hotel. Attendees included Mr Chen Wenqing, Member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Secre­tary of the Political and Legal Affairs Commission of the Com­munist Party of China (CPC) as well as Secretary of the China Law Society; Mr Yuan Jiajun, Member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Secre­tary of the Chongqing Municipal Committee; Deputy Prime Min­isters, Chief Justices, Ministers and Deputy Ministers from the legal and judicial ministries of ASEAN member states; officials from the ASEAN Secretariat; the President, professors and students of the Southwest Uni­versity of Political Science and Law; Professor Zhang Xiao Jun, Secretary-General of the China–ASEAN Legal Research Centre, along with centre mem­bers, as well as legal scholars from China.

 

At the forum, Deputy Min­ister and Deputy Attorney-Gen­eral Dr Htein Lin Oo stated that the Ministry of Legal Affairs and the China–ASEAN Legal Re­search Centre had been contin­uing their cooperation through ongoing legal research activi­ties. He added that both coun­tries had been working together effectively to uphold the rule of law, achieving notable results in combating transnational crimes. He also noted that the Ministry of Legal Affairs was engaging in legal cooperation with ASEAN member states.

 

He further explained that bilateral meetings and discus­sions between the Ministry of Legal Affairs and the China– ASEAN Legal Research Centre had helped to foster long-term friendship and mutual under­standing. In line with the mem­orandum of understanding, both sides would continue to collab­orate on legal analysis, review and implementation; student exchanges; and the delivery of legal training programmes.

 

In the afternoon, the Myan­mar delegation, led by the Dep­uty Minister and Deputy Attor­ney-General, met with a team headed by Yin Baohu, Deputy Secretary-General of the China Law Society. During the meet­ing, both sides exchanged views on legal cooperation between the Ministry of Legal Affairs and the China–ASEAN Legal Re­search Centre. — MNA/MKKS
