Myanmar exports 150K tonnes of rubber in Apr-Nov
MYANMAR
shipped almost 150,000 tonnes of Myanmar rubber in the past eight months of
the current financial year 2025-2026 beginning 1 April, according to the
Myanmar Rubber Planters and Producers Association (MRPPA).
MRPPA
aims to achieve a rubber export target of about 350,000 tonnes in the 2025-2026
FY.
Myanmar’s
rubber export bagged US$500 million from 300,000 tonnes in the previous FY
2024-2025.
“Myanmar’s
rubber industry is facing a shortage of rubber tappers and adverse weather
conditions. Rubber yield is possibly to decline this season. At present, the
global rubber price has decreased slightly. Consequently, Myanmar rubber also
does not fetch good prices,” said U Khaing Myint, general secretary of the
MRPPA.
There
are 1.64 million acres of rubber across nine regions and states, with
production of over 300,000 tonnes from one million rubber tapping acres.
Domestic demand is only 20,000 tonnes. The remaining is sent to foreign markets
as industrial raw materials.
China
accounts for 75 per cent of Myanmar’s rubber exports, and the remaining is sent
to Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, India and Japan. — ASH/KK
