Myanmar’s shrimp export exceeds 6,000 MT in past seven months (Apr-Oct)

THE Department of Fisheries stated that almost 6,000 met­ric tonnes of shrimp worth US$17.75 million were deliv­ered to foreign markets in the past seven months of the cur­rent financial year 2025-2026 beginning 1 April.

Myanmar sent over 5,440 metric tonnes of shrimp worth $14.8 million by sea in the past seven months, while 536.86 metric tonnes of shrimp valued at $2.94 million are exported to neighbouring countries at the border.

Myanmar exported over 9,000 tonnes of shrimp in the last FY 2024-2025, bagging $30 million, the department stated.

Myanmar steadily exports seafood to 40 countries includ­ing China, Thailand, Bangla­desh and Japan through mar­itime and land borders. — NN/ KK
