MoFA Union Minister attends Laos’ 50th anniversary & 70-year bilateral ties event
UNION Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe
attended a reception marking the 50th anniversary
of the founding of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic and the 70th anniversary of the
establishment of diplomatic relations between Myanmar and Laos yesterday at
the Pan Pacific Hotel in Yangon.
Ambassador Mr Bounphieng Chanthavong of the
Lao People’s Democratic Republic to Myanmar, his spouse, and other officials
first warmly welcomed Union Minister U Than Swe and the guests attending the
reception.
The ceremony then began with the playing of
the national anthems of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and the Lao
People’s Democratic Republic. The ambassador delivered a welcoming speech, and
Union Minister U Than Swe delivered a congratulatory speech.
The Union minister and the ambassador cut a
cake commemorating the 50th anniversary
of the founding of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic and the 70th anniversary of the
establishment of diplomatic relations between Myanmar and Laos, and they posed
for a group documentary photo with the guests attending the reception.
Afterwards, the ambassador hosted a dinner for the attendees.
The reception was attended by State Security
and Peace Commission Member and Chief of the General Staff (Army, Navy, Air)
General Kyaw Swa Lin and his wife, Union Minister for Labour U Aung Kyaw Hoe,
Union Minister for Commerce U Chit Swe, Union Minister for Education Dr Chaw
Chaw Sein, Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein, the commander of the
Yangon Command and his wife, the Yangon mayor, ambassadors from foreign
embassies in Yangon, chargés d’affaires, UN resident representatives, and other invitees. —
