MoIP Union Minister meets UNFPA Representative for Myanmar



UNION Minister U Myint Kyaing of the Ministry of Immi­gration and Population received Mr Jaime Nadal Roig, UNFPA Representative for Myanmar, and his delegation yesterday at the Minister’s Reception Hall in Nay Pyi Taw.

 

During the meeting, they exchanged views on the suc­cessful completion of the 2024 Population and Housing Cen­sus and the issuance of the Union Report, as well as on ar­rangements to draft and sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to facilitate the imple­mentation of jointly agreed pro­jects between the Ministry and UNFPA. They also discussed the need to include only those activities that can realistically be completed within the desig­nated timeframe, and the facil­itation of visas and residency permits for UNFPA’s interna­tional staff in accordance with established procedures. The importance of UNFPA providing an updated list of its internation­al and national staff to enable the Ministry to extend neces­sary assistance was noted. The two sides further discussed My­anmar’s current developments, preparations for the upcoming general election, and prospects for continued close cooperation between the Ministry and UN­FPA.

 

Also, present at the meeting were Deputy Minister U Htay Hlaing, Permanent Secretary U Min Hein, and the directors-gen­eral of the Department of Im­migration and the Department of Population, along with other responsible officials. — MNA/ MKKS
