Space Museum (Yangon) crowded with visitors; opening hours extended for weekends, holidays
THE Space Museum (Yangon), located within the People’s Park in Dagon Township, Yangon, is bustling with visitors, and the site is so crowded that people have to wait in long queues to purchase tickets, according to the visitors.
The museum was created by upgrading the former planetarium, and since its opening, it has garnered significant public interest, drawing large crowds of students, adults, and youths alike.
One visitor shared her experience: “We have been queuing for tickets since 8 am, and there were many people ahead of us. Since it’s a school holiday, many families with children came. There is a lot of interest, and it is very crowded. By 9 am, the ticket line is already very long.”
Tickets are sold for 300 people per session, and the admission fees are K500 for monks, nuns, and students, K1,500 for adults over 12, K1,000 for children under 12, and K5,000 for foreigners.
Visitors can explore the Go To Analogue Planetarium Projection System established in 1987 under the Myanmar-Japan friendship programme, the Deep Space Exploration gallery, space stations and spacesuits, an astronomy timeline, international rockets and satellites, and rocket launch VR simulations. The Digital Planetarium Projection System features ‘From Earth to the Universe’ on Tuesday, ‘Big Astronomer’ on Wednesday, ‘Out There’ on Thursday, ‘Dark Matter’ on Friday, ‘Hot Energetic Universe’ on Saturday, and ‘The Sun, Our Living Star’ on Sunday.
Initially, the museum was open Tuesday through Sunday from 9 am to 12 noon and 1 pm to 4 pm. Due to the large number of visitors, the hours have been extended for Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays from 8 am to noon and from 1 pm to 5 pm. — MT/ZN
