Union Commerce Minister attends 37th CFC Governing Council Meeting



AT the invitation of Common Fund for Commodities (CFC) Managing Director Dr Sheikh Mohammed Belal, Union Min­ister for Commerce U Chit Swe, Myanmar’s Governor for CFC, at­tended the 37th Governing Coun­cil Meeting of the CFC held in a hybrid format on 10 December 2025 in The Hague, the Neth­erlands, online and delivered a National Statement on behalf of Myanmar.

 

In his national statement, the Union minister said that Myan­mar is an agriculture-based coun­try and that CFC-supported pro­jects in rubber, dairy and meat, vegetables, bamboo, fisheries, and natural fertilizer production were implemented with 11 other Asia-Pacific countries from 1999 to 2022, expressing his gratitude to the CFC for the many benefits it has brought and his hope to work more closely with the CFC in various sectors in the future, including Myanmar’s agriculture, forestry, fisheries, SMEs, val­ue-added production, climate-re­silient agriculture, and market access. He also stated that his country is interested in modern and sustainable agricultural methods, climate-resilient tech­nologies, low-carbon agriculture, digital information systems, and risk management, expressed his desire to receive CFC-supported projects annually, and voiced his support for the CFC’s 2025-2035 strategic framework.

 

The 37th session was attend­ed in a hybrid format by repre­sentatives from 101 member countries, private sector organ­izations, policymakers, develop­ment experts, researchers, devel­opment partners, and observer countries, with governors from 36 countries delivering nation­al statements and a delegation led by U Thant Sin Oo, Minister Counsellor of the Myanmar Em­bassy in Brussels, Belgium, also in attendance. — MNA/TH
