Tropical Storm Koto is nearing Vietnam's waters, prompting urgent warnings for vessels in the area, the Vietnam News Agency reported Monday.

As of 7:00 a.m. Monday, the storm carried maximum winds of 74 km per hour as it tracked westward and is expected to weaken into a low-pressure system by 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

The storm is forecast to create hazardous conditions in the waters off the central provinces from Gia Lai to Khanh Hoa, with strong winds and waves of up to five meters.
