“Advancing National Interests through Foreign Policy” workshop conducted

The Political Department of the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a workshop titled “Advancing National
Interests through Foreign Policy” at the Lawkanat Hall of the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs on 27 February 2026.
The workshop was attended by the
Union minister, deputy ministers, the permanent secretary, ambassadors, and
directors-general and officers from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as
senior officials from other related ministries.
Union Minister U Than Swe
delivered the opening address at the workshop. He explained that the purpose of
the workshop was to enhance the capacity, research practice, and analytical
skills of the Ministry’s staff members by learning the experiences of Senior
Officials of the Ministry, Ambassadors, and academic professors, as well as to
ensure the effective implementation of the national interests of the country.
He stated that it is imperative to establish and implement strategies when
implementing the nation’s foreign policy. He underscored the importance of
effective coordination between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and related Ministries. The Union minister expressed his conviction
that the workshop would generate sound recommendations by analyzing the
challenges and opportunities in protecting and promoting the national interests
of Myanmar, ultimately aiming to transform those challenges into opportunities.
The workshop was organized to
enable officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and related Ministries to
gain a deeper understanding of contemporary geopolitical landscapes, regional
and international developments evolving alongside rapid technological
advancements, the domestic realities, as well as the current challenges and
opportunities of the country. It also aimed to identify effective measures to
protect and promote Myanmar’s national interests in the international context.
In the first session of the
workshop, senior officials and academic professors discussed several key
topics, including the relationship between national interests and geopolitics,
Foreign policy analysis, the role of mass media in international relations and
current national interest priorities.
In the second session,
Ambassadors shared their practical diplomatic experiences with the staff
members of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on protecting and promoting
Myanmar’s national interests in bilateral, regional and international fora.
Following this, attendees participated in group discussions categorized by
their respective topics.
Afterwards, Deputy Minister U Ko
Ko Kyaw delivered the closing remarks and the workshop was concluded. — MNA
