Film Arts Sector Essential for Complete Development
8 February 2026
cting President of the Republic
of the Union of Myanmar and State Security and Peace Commission Chairman Senior
General Min Aung Hlaing attended the 2025 Myanmar motion pictures outstanding
award presentation ceremony at the Myanmar International Convention Centre I
(MICC I) in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday evening and presented outstanding awards to
the winners.
The Senior General inaugurated
the 2025 Myanmar Academy Awards ceremony by placing the Academy Star figurine
on the digital podium.
Artistes from the Myanmar Motion
Pictures Organization and Fine Arts Department under the Ministry of Religious
Affairs and Culture performed the song presentation. A video clip on “Brighter
Tomorrows” was screened.
On the occasion, the Senior
General delivered a speech. He said: Since art can vividly express the
thoughts, spirit, and values of a nation and its people, any development that
excludes the film and cultural sectors cannot be considered fully complete.
Myanmar cinema serves as a
language that connects Myanmar’s cultural traditions and ways of life to the
world. It is also a medium through which the languages, cultural customs, and
lifestyles of the people can be shared globally. Therefore, the art of
filmmaking is not only a source of strength for nation-building but also
represents the spirit of the state itself.
The cultural heritage in Myanmar
possesses unique depth and significance, just like the cultural heritage found
in every other country in the world. Everyone in the film industry is artistes
capable of passing on the invaluable cultural heritage left by ancestors to
future generations. Therefore, he urged that all tangible and intangible
cultural heritage be preserved, protected, and valued as part of the world’s
cultural heritage for the benefit of all humanity.
At present, the 2025 multiparty
democratic general election has been completed, and soon, institutions aligned
with democracy will reemerge within the executive, legislative, and judicial
branches. He expressed gratitude to all artistes and ethnic citizens who
collectively contributed to the successful conduct of this major election.
To reach the stage of
democratization, all members of the society must face the actual conditions as
they are. Unrealistic mobilizations cannot simply be promoted to gain popular
approval, nor can personal desires be imposed at the forefront. It must be
recognized that democratization must be carried out firmly based on the social
and economic conditions of society, the structures of social groups, and
political culture.
The 2008 Constitution serves as
the vital framework that must be fully adhered to in Myanmar’s democratic
transition process, and it is necessary for all political participants and
citizens to be aware of this.
The Government is working
diligently to prioritize the interests of the nation and all ethnic citizens,
striving to bring about a better country and improved social and economic
conditions.
At present, the Government is
implementing political, economic, and social policies based on these three core
responsibilities. Therefore, all Myanmar citizens were urged to be united with
a single national spirit, to work together hand in hand to ensure the peace,
stability, and development of the great Union.
The Government has provided
appropriate support and assistance to foster development in various fields such
as literature, film, music, and performing arts, and we will continue to do so.
He also urged filmmakers and artistes not only to entertain the public but to
use their work to promote national spirit, love for one’s ethnic group and the
nation, the growth of public knowledge, and the achievement of the State’s
goals.
He especially requested that
Myanmar’s traditional customs and cultural heritage be preserved without being
lost or diminished, that outside cultural influences be guarded against, and
that the core values remain intact. Artistes were encouraged to adapt
harmoniously to the changing times while using their craft to serve the nation
and the people, acting with a spirit of patriotism and dedication.
