Over 88 Tons of Illegal Timber Seized Nationwide

The Forest Department under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation continues to intensify its crackdown on the illegal timber trade through a range of measures, including the Community Monitoring and Reporting System (CMRS) in cooperation with local communities.

Between 2 and 8 March, a total of 88.70 tons of illegal timber were seized across the Nay Pyi Taw Council area and various states and regions. The confiscated timber included 4.35 tons of teak, 14.53 tons of hardwood, and 69.80 tons of other wood types.

Authorities also seized nine vehicles and pieces of machinery used in illegal logging operations and arrested 11 suspects in connection with the cases.— MNA
