Pwintbyu, 10 March

In Pwintbyu Township, 225 acres of winter mung bean crops have been harvested with an average yield of 12.52 bushels per acre, according to the Township Agriculture Department.

A total of 276 acres of mung bean were cultivated during the winter season in the township, and harvesting began in February this year.

The township had planned to cultivate 72,564 acres of various pulses and beans, including mung bean, green gram, lablab bean, peas and chickpeas, but the total planted area reached 82,637 acres.

The Township Agriculture Department has been assisting farmers by promoting quality seeds, improved cultivation methods, pest control and systematic fertilizer use to increase crop yields. Officials noted that improving mung bean yield and quality can help meet local consumption needs and increase farmers’ incomes.— Hlaing Win Lay (Pwintbyu Myay)
