11-Year-Old Girl Killed by Fallen Tree in Patheingyi amid Strong Winds
Patheingyi, April 23
An 11-year-old girl was killed and four others injured after strong winds and light rain caused trees to fall in Patheingyi Township, Mandalay Region, late on April 22.
The incident occurred around 11:00 pm along the Mandalay–Pyin Oo Lwin Highway between President and Kyaukmee villages, where heavy winds broke branches and uprooted trees. In Kyu Wun Village, a large tree—about five feet in circumference and 30 feet tall—collapsed onto the home of U Than Htun Aung while the family was asleep. His daughter, Ma Khin Sabay Oo, died at the scene.
Four other residents sustained injuries and were transported by ambulance to Mandalay General Hospital with assistance from the Mon Myat Thu Social Assistance Association.
Local officials and members of the Township Disaster Management Committee inspected the site, coordinated relief efforts, and provided financial support to the affected family. Authorities also visited the injured at the hospital and offered support.—May Wady (Township IPRD)
