2 killed, 4 injured as vehicle plunges into water dam in N. Afghanistan

At least two commuters were killed and four others injured after their vehicle veered off the road and plunged into a water dam in northern Afghanistan's Badakhshan province, a local police official reported on Wednesday evening.

The accident occurred on the outskirts of Shahri Buzurg district due to reckless driving, said Ehsanullah Kamgar, the provincial police spokesman.

All the injured were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, said Kamgar, adding that the authorities have launched an investigation into the exact cause of the incident.

Traffic accidents caused by poor road infrastructure, steep terrain and challenging weather conditions, especially during the spring thaw, are frequently reported in Badakhshan, a mountainous province bordering Tajikistan.
