Cambodia registers 11,656 electric cars by March 2026

Cambodia had registered a total of 11,656 electric vehicles (EVs) from 2021 to March 2026, Ministry of Public Works and Transport spokesperson Phan Rim said on Thursday.

In addition, the Southeast Asian country had recorded 3,832 electric motorcycles and 722 electric three-wheelers as of March this year, he added.

"We see a significant rise in EV registration in March this year," he told Xinhua. "A total of 1,676 EVs had been registered in the single month of March this year."

Phan Rim said more and more people have turned to EVs after a surge in global oil prices caused by the Middle East conflict.

A liter of diesel costs 5,700 riels (about 1.42 U.S. dollars) on Thursday, as regular gasoline is priced at 4,950 riels, according to the Ministry of Commerce.

"Using EVs saves on fuel costs and is environmentally friendly as EVs produce zero tailpipe emissions," he said.
