Myeik, April 28

The Myeik District Disaster Management Department has provided financial assistance to three men who sustained severe burns in a recent boat fire and are currently receiving treatment at Myeik General Hospital.

At around 1:30 pm on April 27, each victim—U Soe Moe Aung, U Than Oo, and U Paw Htun Oo—received K50,000 to support their recovery. In addition, the Myeik Township Red Cross Society donated essential relief items, including personal supplies, mosquito nets, and cotton blankets.

Officials present at the handover included Daw Mya Saw Nwe, Officer in Charge of the District Disaster Management Department, Daw Zin Mimi Hlaing, Deputy Staff Officer, Daw Thin Thin Aye, Township Officer of the Red Cross Society and her team, as well as local administrators U Min Ho and U Lin Naing.

The fire occurred on April 25 at approximately 6:40 p.m. aboard the Ayepyae Aung-3, a fishing vessel docked near the fish auction bridge in Inlaymyaing, Myeik Taung Village Tract. The boat, carrying gasoline and diesel, was preparing to return to Pyinbunge Village in Pulaw Township when an engine malfunction reportedly caused sparks that ignited the fire.

All three victims, fishermen from Pyinbunge Village, suffered critical burn injuries affecting multiple parts of their bodies and were admitted to Myeik General Hospital for treatment.—Myint Oo (Myeik)
