Music Association to oversee performances during Thingyan
THE Myanmar Music Association (Central) will supervise musicians’ performances during the Myanmar Thingyan Festival to ensure that they are in line with Myanmar culture and traditions.
This Myanmar New Year Thingyan Festival will be celebrated in all regions and states, districts, townships, wards and village-tracts as part of the welcome for the Myanmar New Year. It has also been announced that the festival will include musical performances.
“The Thingyan Festival will include walking Thingyan events and musical performances nationwide, including in villages across districts and townships. The Music Association has previously warned all artists from various musical fields to perform in accordance with Myanmar culture and traditions. There are guidelines stating that singing and performances must align with cultural standards, and as there are already music associations in townships across the regions and states, those associations will carry out monitoring,” said an official from the Myanmar Music Association (Central).
The Thingyan Festival will prioritize walking Thingyan events nationwide, and in addition to performances by well-known singers, there will be many other programmes highlighting Myanmar’s traditional culture and heritage. — ASH/MKKS
